Sioux City, Iowa – Sioux City Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Rod Earleywine has announced his intent to retire in June 2025. Earleywine discussed his plans during the District’s board of directors meeting on Monday.
Earleywine first joined the District as interim superintendent in July of 2022 before being named as the District’s permanent superintendent in January 2023. During his time in the Sioux City Community School District, Earleywine has overseen the return of teaming in the District’s middle schools, navigated the implementation of new district discipline protocols and state laws, and initiated vital taskforce work in the areas of special education and English Language Learners.
Before joining Sioux City Community Schools, Earleywine had a long tenure with Sergeant Bluff – Luton Community School District, serving as the school district’s superintendent for 15 years.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as superintendent in the Sioux City Community School District. Over the last couple of years, I have been privileged to work alongside very dedicated educators and administrators, all with the common goal of ensuring students reach their highest potential,” says Earleywine. “While I look forward to my next role – spending more time with my family and friends, my role with Sioux City Community Schools continues. We have important work to accomplish this school year, and I am committed to building on the success we have already achieved over the next several months.”
The Sioux City Community School Board of Directors plans to retain a recruiting firm to lead a nationwide search for the District’s next superintendent. The Board will select the recruiting firm in the coming weeks.
“Dr. Earleywine has done an exceptional job of leading our district and providing a bridge to our future. We appreciate his vision and advocacy on behalf of Sioux City Community Schools and public education. His work has positioned the District for future success, and we are confident that, with the input of district team members, students, families, and community leaders, we can identify an experienced candidate to lead the District for many years to come,” says Sioux City Community School District Board President Jan George. “We are committed to conducting a comprehensive and transparent search for our next superintendent and look forward to starting that process soon.”
Additional details on the superintendent search, including opportunities for district employees, families, and the community to provide their input, will be announced as the search process is finalized.
